Provincial and Territorial Public Drug Benefit Programs

After having been through the HTA process, and the pCPA negotiations, the provinces, territories and federal public drug benefit programs are those ultimately responsible for reimbursing their citizen’s medications. Each payer makes its own decisions for which products to reimburse based on local priorities and budget.

Each drug plan varies in structure, eligibility, formulary, and patient “out of pocket” cost. Funding of oncology drugs also varies across the country depending on route of administration and provincial structure.
